GDF SUEZ Energy UK has pioneered the development of Load-Management services in the UK. Many types of organisation with generation or Load-Management capability can participate in these schemes, such as Short Term Operating Reserve (STOR) – and earn around £35,000/MW per annum by doing so.
STOR
The STOR service is used by National Grid to ensure that supply on the transmission network is balanced. Participants may be asked to start up standby generation or reduce their power consumption at various times throughout the day to help National Grid rebalance the system. The standby electricity generation facilities on your site could be an untapped source of valuable income. Whether it's a combined heat and power plant (CHP), diesel generator or open-cycle gas plant, GDF SUEZ Energy UK can help you to maximise the potential of your on-site generation plant by participating in STOR.
Opportunities for smaller sites
Usually, to participate in STOR, a business must be able to offer at least 3MW of standby generation or load reduction to National Grid. However, thanks to innovative aggregation contracts developed by GDF SUEZ Energy UK, smaller sites, possibly with loads sized of 100kW or even smaller, can now be grouped together to create a combined load of 3MW – allowing this 'basket' of sites to participate in the scheme and tap into the money-earning benefits of load management
Triads
We can also help you try to avoid high transmission costs through our Triad warning service. The Triads are the three half-hours in each winter season (November to February) that have the highest demand peaks on the electricity network. Transmission costs are based on consumption during these three peaks. We provide a Triad warning service for customers who wish to try to reduce their transmission charges.
