The Triads are the three half-hours in each winter season (November to February) that have the highest demand peaks on the electricity network. The three peaks have to be separated by ten days, so an extreme week-long cold snap can only dictate one of the three Triad dates. The peaks are always around lighting-up time, nearly always in the half hour between 5 – 5.30pm.
Customers have to pay to use the National Grid Transmission System as these payments contribute to the upkeep of the system and ensure it keeps running. Customers pay a fee based on their energy consumption during the Triad periods each winter, and so reducing consumption at these times can bring significant savings.
Our Triad Warning Service
We forecast potential Triads for two or three half-hours around 5:30pm, for customers who wish to avoid the high transmission costs that are based on consumption during the three peaks.
